Vidya
Poshak – 1st Quarter Updates (Apr – June 2019)
Vidya Poshak, India is a registered Non-Government Organization
(NGO), serving education community from 2001. We
strongly believe Education is the solution for Ending Poverty. When we invest
in a Young, economically challenged meritorious youth for a few years, we can
break the poverty cycle of a family forever.

The application process for
the new academic year 2019-20 started from 1st May 2019, till date
we have received more than 3500 eligible applications from 10 districts of
Karnataka. The students who have completed Class 10 in the current academic
year and Class 12 are eligible to apply for the Nurture Merit Program.
Once the last date for
application is over our volunteers will complete the poverty assessment through
a physical house visit and meeting the students and parents. We are planning to
induct 400 new students for the year 2019-20 along with supporting the existing
1200 students.
Class
11 & 12 result analysis
- 99.00%
of the students were successful in the exam
- 31.00 % of the students scored 90% and above
- 65.55 % of the students scored 80% and above

students scored 100% in one or more subjects
Library Services Updates
Our
five Libraries and 12 book banks continue to provide services to the youth by
providing academic & reference books. Also in all the libraries the
students are allowed to use the computers and Internet facilities for their
academic research purposes. On an average 2000 students access our libraries
and book banks every month.
Aptiv
CSR have supported for purchase of Engineering & Competitive exam books. We
have purchased 241 books worth INR 1,00,000 during this month.
Vidya
Poshak encourages the scholars to involve them in social leadership and
giveback programs, every month on a Sunday the youth volunteers engage
themselves in different programs. Following are some highlights of the programs
during this quarter.
On
21st June’19, Yoga Day was celebrated by youth volunteers in “Banashankari
Vanaprastashrama” (Home for old age) Dharwad. The youth volunteers spent
quality time with elders by doing various activities like Yoga, songs, drama,
poetry and interaction with elders. The students showed their talents and bring
smiles on the senior citizens.
On
21st June 2019 the Youth volunteers of Hubli organized Plantation
and Yoga program at Soorashetty Koppa near Hubli. Our volunteer Mr Shambuling
Uppin donated 100 saplings and were planted in Laddu Mutya Ashram.
On
25th June as part of the Youth program Vidya Poshak scholars from
Sirsi visited Roshani differently abled children’s school. The students spent
the time with the children during the day by engaging in different activities. They
also handed over a carom board , Sketch pens and sweets to the children in the institution.
Residential Bridge Camp
Updates
During
the first quarter 3 residential bridge camps were conducted for final year
degree students. 174 students attended the training program which were
conducted in Bangarmakki, Vijaypur & Siddapur.
The
training programs were focused on Interview preparation, Resume writing, Group
Discussion and Aptitude skills. Following are some letters written by the

Susandhi Program Updates
Susandhi
Fellowship program is a unique program designed to impart technical skills
along with exemplary behavioral skills. This is the only program in India in
which 12th standard science students are trained in high-end technology areas
and cost of the full training is covered.
It is a five year program.
Overall
74 students are supported through this program. The fifth batch students are
now starting their final year BSc program. In the batch six Five trainees are
undergoing Internship with Merahkee
Technology Solutions a company working in software product development. Two
Trainees are undergoing industrial internship with Dhiomics Analytics and currently working on Data scraping, Data
processing and Web application Development.
In Batch seven Eight trainees are selected for internship with Sankalp
semiconductor [VLSI] and one trainee is with Vegam Solutions [Industrial IoT].
eVidyaloka - Online tutoring in rural
Govt. Schools
This program is a joint
venture between Vidya Poshak and eVidyaloka. Trained volunteer teachers based
across the world deliver online interactive sessions through skype in
vernacular language to the children studying in 5th to 7th class. This programme is now being run in 20 village
schools of Dharwad block benefitting 1602 children.
The students of these Govt
Schools are now started to participate in National level Competitions,
Olympiads etc and getting recognition.
C
V Raman Award: The
Raman Young Science Innovator Award has been instituted to create interest in
Science at a young age, leading to more children taking up STEM as a career. Ms. Suma Turumari a student from
Government Higher Primary School, Bogur doing her 7th std participated in The
Raman Young Science Innovator Award with the help of her mentor, Jai Priya. Suma is the only student from a Government
school who got short listed from across the country. Also in the final
event happened in Bangalore Suma was announced as a Raman Awards winner for
2019-20 under the Middle school category.
Vidya Poshak Community (Alumni) Support
Our Alumni community consists of more
than 3500 members. Importantly VPC’s are the key persons to connect various CSR
teams with Vidya Poshak.
Our Alumni Community has connected us in
getting Employee Matching grants through online portals like GlobalGiving,
Benevity, Your Cause etc.
